Contender One
Paychex built its reputation on a branch and local-representative model: regional offices and assigned reps rather than a purely centralized structure. Its Paychex Flex product line runs through tiers aimed at small businesses through larger mid-market employers. Pricing is not published; every plan routes to a custom quote.
Paychex completed its acquisition of Paycor on April 14, 2025 for approximately $4.1 billion. Paycor continues operating under its own brand and its own pricing process, so a company evaluating Paychex today is, in practice, choosing between two Paychex-owned product lines: Paychex Flex and Paycor.

Contender Two
Paylocity sells a single HCM suite covering payroll, HR, benefits, and talent tools, aimed at growing mid-size companies. Its differentiator has long been the employee-facing layer: a community and recognition feed and modern self-service, designed to get employees actually opening the app rather than just tolerating it at pay time. Pricing is not published and varies by company size and modules selected.
Paylocity launched Elevate Solutions, its own managed-services line, on April 21, 2026. Elevate Payroll lets Paylocity's own team run payroll inside a client's account, quoted separately from the standard software.

How to Actually Decide
Lean Paychex. Its published model is built around branch offices and assigned representatives rather than a purely centralized structure.
Lean Paylocity. Its engagement-first design is built to get adoption, not just compliance.
Both are Paychex-owned as of April 2025. Get quotes for both before assuming they are meaningfully different companies rather than two product lines under one parent.

The Referee's Close
If you want software, Paychex and Paylocity solve different problems: one leans on a branch and local-rep model with decades of scale, now doubled by owning Paycor, one leans on employee-facing engagement to drive adoption. Either way, you still enter hours, review every run, and approve every cycle, and neither company publishes a price until a sales conversation happens.
If instead you want payroll run for you, inside your existing system, at a flat rate you can see before you talk to anyone, that is BEG managed payroll: $25-$45 PEPM, all-inclusive, every filing and every W-2 handled. No co-employment, no software login for your team, no quote gate.

Questions
Neither publishes pricing. Both require a census and a sales conversation for an exact number. Get quotes for the same headcount and modules from both before comparing.
No, but Paychex owns Paycor. Paychex completed its acquisition of Paycor on April 14, 2025 for approximately $4.1 billion, and Paycor still operates and sells under its own brand and its own pricing process.
Both are software you or your team operate directly on their standard plans. You enter hours, review each run, and approve it every cycle. Both also sell a separately quoted vendor-run managed tier if you want the work handled instead.
Paychex has historically built around branch offices and assigned local representatives. Paylocity centralizes support and leans on self-service resources and its employee-facing app instead.
BEG is not a party to either platform. If what you want is payroll run for you instead of software you operate, BEG managed payroll is the alternative: a flat $25-$45 PEPM, all-inclusive, inside your existing system, with an instant on-screen estimate instead of a sales quote.
