Finance Recruiters: Analysis, Planning, Treasury And The Transactional Team

Corporate finance seats are priced by geography more than by title: OEWS metro medians for financial analysts run from $74,310 to $144,910 against a $102,740 national figure. BEG places permanent finance professionals from clerk to VP in 23 to 35 days, on milestone billing agreed before sourcing rather than a percentage of salary.

What Makes This Function Hard To Hire Into

Three things that surprise employers in a finance search

$70,600
Spread between the top and bottom metro medians for financial analysts
San Jose at $144,910 against Oklahoma City at $74,310, across roughly 361,980 people nationally, per BLS occupational employment and wage data for financial analysts. That range is wider than the national median itself, and any remote-eligible advert is priced against the top of it.
65,600
Projected financial manager openings a year to 2035
On a base of 879,700 jobs growing 10 percent across the decade, per BLS employment projections for financial managers. Growth at that rate in a senior occupation means the managers and directors you want are being contacted constantly, and an advertised search competes mainly for people who are already between roles.
-6%
Projected change in transactional finance employment to 2035
With about 144,100 openings a year regardless, essentially all replacing leavers rather than filling new roles, per BLS projections for bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks. A shrinking occupation with constant replacement demand is a harder market than a growing one, which is the opposite of what most hiring plans assume.

How The Search Runs

From an unclear brief to a shortlist that competes

01
Split the container into a job

Finance titles absorb whatever a company has not yet separated out. The discovery call establishes which of reporting, forecasting, cash and credit are genuinely in scope, because that is what decides whether you need an accountant-trained or an analyst-trained candidate.

02
Source against the right metro band

We benchmark the seat to the market it will actually be filled from rather than to a national average, then approach employed candidates directly with a description specific enough to be worth replying to.

03
Shortlist of 3 to 5, tested on the work

Analytical seats get a short modelling exercise before shortlisting rather than after it, because it removes two rounds of conversational interviewing and is considerably more predictive than either of them.

Where the brief turns out to describe an accounting problem rather than a finance one, we will say so and point you at the right seat. Role-by-role detail sits on the pages below, starting with financial analyst and FP&A manager.

Milestone Billing Against Contingency

A percentage fee is a bet on geography.

A contingency fee for the same analyst is $25,685 at the national median and $36,228 if you hire in San Jose, for identical work. BEG prices by the tier of the seat, from $4,680 at Tier I to $40,128 at Tier VI, agreed before the first approach and unchanged by the metro, the package or the counteroffer you have to beat.

What An Empty Finance Seat Defers

Forecasting degrades into extrapolation.

Nothing visible breaks. The budget gets rolled forward with a growth percentage applied, the cash position is checked in a bank portal each morning, and credit decisions default to whoever wants the sale. The bill arrives as a pricing change made without a volume assumption, a bad debt nobody modelled, or a covenant discovered late. None of it is ever attributed to the vacancy that caused it.

No commitment. We will tell you what the seat needs and what the search costs before you decide anything.

BEG does not employ finance professionals and does not bill by the hour or the day, so contract and interim cover is not something we sell and we will name it where it is the better answer. Public practice roles and the technical accounting leadership seats, including controller and CFO, are recruited through accounting and CPA placement rather than here.

FAQ

Common questions about finance recruiting

Which finance roles does BEG place?

The corporate finance function: AP and AR clerks, bookkeepers, staff accountants, financial analysts, FP&A managers, treasury managers, finance managers and VPs of finance. Public practice seats and the technical accounting leadership roles, controller and CFO among them, are recruited through our accounting and CPA practice instead.

Is BEG a staffing agency?

No. Temporary and contract finance firms employ the person and bill you an hourly or daily rate, which suits a leave cover or a project with an end date. BEG places permanent finance professionals your company employs directly, on milestone billing agreed before sourcing. Where an interim would genuinely serve you better, we say so instead of opening a search.

Why do finance searches take longer than the salary suggests?

Because the strongest people are employed and the seats are less standardised than the titles imply. BLS projects financial manager employment to grow 10 percent from 2025 to 2035 with about 65,600 openings a year, which means the candidates you want are being approached regularly whether or not they are looking.

How should we benchmark a finance salary?

By metro rather than nationally, particularly in analytical roles. OEWS puts the national median for financial analysts at $102,740 as of May 2025, but metro medians run from $74,310 in Oklahoma City to $144,910 in San Jose. If the role is remote-eligible you are competing at the top of that range regardless of where your office is.

How does milestone billing work?

The fee is set by the tier of the seat and agreed before sourcing, then billed against defined stages of the search rather than as a percentage of salary at the end. A Tier I clerk search is $4,680 to $5,616 and a Tier V VP finance search is $22,640 to $27,168. Improving your offer does not increase the fee.

Are transactional finance roles still worth recruiting for?

They are harder, not easier. BLS projects bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerk employment to decline 6 percent to 2035 while still generating roughly 144,100 openings a year, essentially all replacing leavers. A shrinking occupation that turns over constantly is a tighter market than a growing one, because nothing refills the pool from below.

How long does a finance search take?

An average of 23 to 35 days from discovery call to signed offer, based on isolved placement data, with an 86% fill rate on active searches. The two things that extend it are an unclear brief, which is common in generalist finance seats, and the planning calendar, since candidates rarely leave mid-budget.

What does the 45-day guarantee cover?

If a placed finance professional does not work out within 45 days of their start date for a performance-related reason, we run a replacement search at no additional charge, and a repeat search for the same seat is offered at 50% off. At senior level that is a backstop rather than a safeguard, and a defined first-quarter scope protects you considerably better.

Can you help us decide between a VP finance and a CFO?

That is usually the first half of the conversation. The question we work through is who currently carries the board, lender and investor relationships. If your chief executive carries them comfortably, a VP finance running the function beneath them is a stable structure. If a fundraise, a transaction or a covenant negotiation is coming, it is not, and we will say so before quoting a tier.

Do you place remote and hybrid finance roles?

Yes, with one caveat worth setting expectations on. A remote-eligible analytical role is competing against the highest-paying market in the country rather than your local one, and a band set against your own metro will lose candidates at offer stage. Deciding that deliberately at the start of the search costs nothing; discovering it in week five costs the search.

How do you test analytical candidates before shortlisting?

With a short modelling exercise rather than another conversation. A candidate is given a small broken model and asked to fix it and say what the output means for the business. It shows whether they audit before they build, whether they pull assumptions out of formulas, and whether they can explain a result to somebody who does not work in finance.

What do you need from us before sourcing starts?

Which of reporting, forecasting, cash and credit are genuinely in scope, who the seat reports to, and the band. Finance titles absorb whatever has not been separated out, so a brief that names the four components is the difference between a shortlist competing for one job and five people each qualified for a different quarter of it.
