Job Placement · Engineering
That open engineering role is putting projects behind. An unfilled engineering seat does not pause your project timeline. It just means someone else absorbs the work - or the work does not get done. We place licensed engineers, PEs, and technical professionals in 23-35 days at roughly 50% less than contingency firms.

The Real Cost of a Slow Search
How It Works
Fifteen minutes to pin down which of the twelve seats this is, whether anything leaves your building sealed, which state and discipline that implies, and which industry the pay band should be benchmarked to.
The engineers worth hiring are mid-programme somewhere and have never applied for a job. We approach them directly, in the discipline you specified, rather than advertising into a pool that has already been picked over.
A shortlist assessed on judgement they have personally exercised: a tolerance scheme that failed, a design changed for manufacture, a fault diagnosed on somebody else system, a supplier they overruled.
What You Get
Common objection: "We already work with contingency recruiters."
Milestone pricing replaces the standard contingency model. For a $100,000-$130,000 engineering role, contingency firms charge $20,000-$32,000 at close. Our total cost is roughly 50% less, structured across defined search milestones.
Common objection: "What if the placement doesn't work out?"
If the hire does not work out within 45 days of their start date for any performance-related reason, we conduct a replacement search at no additional charge. Our guarantee is longer than most contingency firms and is built into every engagement.
Common objection: "We have used recruiters before and wasted time on bad candidates."
You will not sort through 20 resumes hoping one sticks. Your dedicated search specialist builds a shortlist of 3-5 candidates who have been screened against your specific criteria. You only meet people who are genuinely qualified. The first interview is a real conversation, not a screening exercise.
The Math on Waiting
A vacant engineering seat does not just mean one person's workload goes uncovered - it means project milestones slip, client commitments get missed, and your firm's reputation takes the hit. For most engineering firms, a delayed project costs more per week than the annual salary of the role that needs to be filled.
The Talent Window
Licensed engineers, especially PE-stamped professionals, are scarce and passively employed. They are not posting their resume on Indeed. When one opens up to a new opportunity, they receive offers quickly. A proactive sourcing approach is the only reliable way to reach this candidate pool.
No commitment. We will tell you exactly what we can do for your search and what it costs.
Twelve Seats, Twelve Different Searches
Engineering recruiting companies tend to treat the discipline as one market. It is not. Each of these seats has its own candidate pool, its own pay benchmark and its own reason for failing, and each has its own page with the detail on it.
| Seat | What makes this search different |
|---|---|
| Engineering technician | Hands-on capability without design approval authority. Entered through a two-year degree, and the cheapest effective hire in the vertical when the review chain exists. |
| Design and CAD engineer | A separate occupation from design engineering with its own pay band. Documentation quality and model structure, not authorship of the design. |
| Design engineer | Owns geometry, material and tolerance scheme. Priced by metro, where the same portfolio can be worth close to twice as much across two cities. |
| Mechanical engineer | One title over five industry pay markets. Benchmark to the industry you are recruiting from, never to the national figure. |
| Electrical engineer | Power and electronics are two pools with almost no crossover after five years. The brief has to pick one before sourcing starts. |
| Mechanical and electrical engineer | Building and plant systems, where statutory thresholds decide whether the seat legally requires a licensed engineer to seal the set. |
| Project engineer | The most ambiguous title in the vertical. A plant capital project owner and a construction jobsite coordinator share the name and no candidates. |
| Senior engineer | Where the professional licence stops being decorative. Accredited degree, four years of verifiable progressive experience, two exams, one state board. |
| Engineering manager | The promotion firms most often get wrong. Selected on judgement and authority rather than on being the strongest engineer in the room. |
| Director of engineering | Budget, standards and professional risk, including whether your department sits inside a state industrial exemption at all. |
| VP of engineering | A portfolio decision. Which disciplines you employ, which you buy, and where the next twenty heads actually go. |
| Chief engineer | Final design authority, and in some states a licence class above the professional engineer with its own act and its own exam. |
The Question Most Engineering Staffing Firms Skip
It is the single most consequential line in an engineering brief and most job adverts answer it with the word preferred. Getting it right either widens the pool considerably or narrows it to the people who can legally do the work.
NCEES, the body whose member boards license engineers across the United States and its territories, sets out the route in three parts: a bachelor's degree from an EAC/ABET accredited programme, four years of acceptable progressive and verifiable work experience in most states, and passing both the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Its Model Law Engineer criteria add one more requirement that rarely appears in a job description: a clean disciplinary record. A candidate meeting all four is portable between jurisdictions in a way that one meeting three is not.
The practical consequence is that a licence is a fact about a candidate in a particular state, for a particular discipline, at a particular moment. It is not a badge that travels. BEG establishes four things before sourcing on any search in this vertical: whether the seat seals work, which state issues the licence, which of the discipline-specific exams applies, and whether an engineer in training who has already passed the exam is acceptable. Those four answers change the addressable pool by a large multiple, and no amount of sourcing effort compensates for getting them wrong.
For context on the money, BLS puts the median annual wage for engineers as a family at $108,620 as of May 2025, against $50,980 for all occupations. Individual disciplines sit well above and below that, which is why every role page in this vertical carries its own benchmark rather than deferring to a single number.
FAQ
Twelve seats, each with its own page above: engineering technicians, CAD and drafting seats, design engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, building systems engineers, plant project engineers, senior licensed engineers, engineering managers, directors, VPs and chief engineers. We scope which one your vacancy actually is before sourcing, because the table above is not a menu of synonyms.
No, and we will not describe ourselves as one. Engineering staffing firms employ the engineer and invoice you for their hours on a contract assignment, which is a genuinely useful product when you have a project peak. BEG introduces a permanent engineer whom your company employs directly. Different product, different commercial relationship, and it matters which one you are buying.
On size, we do not. The global firms bidding on these terms are larger than BEG, better known and carry databases we cannot match. What we compete on is the commercial structure: a fee agreed against defined milestones before sourcing begins, fixed regardless of the salary you end up offering, rather than a percentage of first-year compensation that rises every time you improve the offer.
We establish whether it is legally required before we screen for it. If the seat seals drawings, a licence in the correct state and the correct discipline is a hard requirement. If it does not, a licence filter narrows the pool and adds nothing. That decision is made on the discovery call, not inferred from the job title.
A 45-day replacement guarantee applies from the start date, plus 50% off a repeat search for the same seat. In a market where licensed and experienced engineers are approached constantly, the replacement term is worth reading closely in any recruiter agreement, not only ours.
Typically within a week of the discovery call, once the discipline, the licence position and the pay band are settled. The average from that point to an accepted offer is 23 to 35 days on isolved placement data, with an 86% fill rate on live searches. State board reviews for an out-of-state licence run separately and after acceptance.
